It’s July, which means it’s the middle of the year according to the calendar…trust me, this year has felt far too long and we’re not anywhere near the end yet! So I wanted to take part in the Mid-Year Freak Out book tag, where I’ll realise I’ve read way too many books whilst also realising I haven’t read enough…if that even makes sense…
BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2020
Ooh this is actually quite hard, because there have been so many wonderful books that I’ve been lucky enough to read this year. I think I’ll definitely have to say You Should See Me In A Crown, it was a book that I didn’t know I needed in my life until I read it and now I can’t wait for more people to also read it and experience the joy.
BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2020
I haven’t read many sequels this year, but I reckon that Aurora Burning was has to be my best sequel so far.
NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO
One of my new releases that I haven’t read yet is Felix Ever After, but I’ve recently received my copy in the post! Can’t wait to read it! If you’re in the UK and can’t find a copy, why not give The Portal Bookshop a message? They’re a super friendly team and were incredibly helpful with sourcing a copy for me, so they should be able to help you!
MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR
These questions always make me stop and think because I’m terrible with book release dates – I forget so many! But I’m definitely looking forward to How The King Of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories – because I’m always in the mood for more of that bratty fae boy Cardan Greenbriar.
Oof, a tough one. I think actually for me it was Viper. It started off alright, but became quite predictable the more I read and then just ended up being rather bland and boring towards the end. I was really disappointed by this as it gets a lot of hype, and it just didn’t live up to that for me.
I was so surprised by an excellent book called Bearmouth! I don’t think many people have read it, but it’s unlike anything I’d ever read before. I read this book back in January and it still amazes me to this day!
FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR NEW TO YOU)
Although I knew of this author for a long time before I read, Becky Chambers was an author I finally read this year and I was blown away by how much I adored these books. I have the third in the series on my bookshelf ready to get to and I can’t wait!
NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH
I don’t really have fictional crushes I’m afraid! Although I have a very big soft spot in my heart for Pepper from A Closed And Common Orbit!
NEWEST FAVOURITE CHARACTER
There are far too many tricky questions in this tag…my favourite book character so far this year is Nishat from The Henna Wars. What a delight that book was! Nishat’s journey, her self-confidence and her determination were all such wonderful parts of the story!
BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY
There have actually only been a couple of books so far this year that have made me cry! The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet was one of them, and it had me sobbing through the last few chapters. Argh, still thinking about what happened now makes me so sad.
BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY
There have been many that have made me happy this year, which I’m really glad for! The Brightsiders was a book that filled me with so much joy, and I’m thrilled that I was able to get a copy and read it. Can’t wait for more books from this author now!
MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT OR RECEIVED THIS YEAR
I think it’s got to be my Illumicrate edition of Dangerous Remedy! Not only is it an absolutely BRILLIANT book, but the design for this book was so well done! There’s even a special embossed design under the dust jacket, which I love when it comes to hardbacks!
WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?
Here’s a list of 5 books that I definitely need to read by the end of 2020:
– Girl, Woman, Other
– The Bone Witch
– Crier’s War
These are all books that I have right now, so I need to get on and make sure that I’ve read them all! I’ll remember to check back at the end of the year when I write my 2020 round up to see if I have!
FAVOURITE BOOK COMMUNITY MEMBER
At the moment, that person has to be Joel – FictionalFates. He’s recently made a booktube account and the content is AMAZING! Plus, Joel is pure sunshine to talk to and has so much talent. I can’t wait to see more videos from him throughout the year!
